I was sitting here eating a rather meaty sandwich, and I thought God damn this is a good sandwich. Obviously, a sandwich without meat is frankly laughable, so I always start with a roll and some sort of meat. I tend not to use store-bought sandwich meats, since you get more texture if you cook the meat yourself. My favorites are roast chicken, roast beef, crispy bacon and chorizo sausage.

A Great Sandwich

After the meat, I normally add lettuce for texture, but it's not always necessary depending on the crustiness of the bread. I butter the roll if I can be bothered, but it’s really a minor issue. And that's it. I don't buy into any of this mayonnaise, relish cheese salad bullshit. Meat, bread and lettuce. That's a sandwich. A grilled cheese sandwich is NOT worthy of the sandwich title.

If you are in the mood for a light sandwich, it's chicken salad, with NO goddamn celery within 100 yards. Chicken salad is large chunks of white meat, on warm fresh bread (potato bread or rosemary/garlic is best) with provolone, mayonnaise, mustard, lettuce, onions, tomatoes.

Speaking of sandwiches, why is the fast food industry using freaky mascots in their advertising? There is now a government proposal to prevent fast food chains from targeting children. Is this yet another case of the government regulating things it has no business to? Or is the country's health in such a disastrous state that we need them to step in?

weird burger king guy, jarrod from subway, freaky advertisements

What are they trying to do… scare you into eating their shit? My next thought would be that this tactic avoids the obvious: Kids don't have money to buy fast food. Their parents buy it for them. By this fact alone we can see that moving advertising to a time when only parents are watching solves nothing, because parents are making just as poor, if not poorer decisions than their children.

What if a chain had to establish a certain healthy standard to ALL food items on their menu? They would probably go out of business. If people don't like what they offer they go out of business but quick. People just don't care that much for healthy food when they go out to eat. Isn't treating yourself the whole point to going out to eat? If I want to eat healthy, it takes no effort to make a good sandwich at home.
